Grand Finale

October 23 &24th  2011, Las Vegas NV-  Jim Bistis, President and CEO of Core Services,  with playing partner Jeffrey Anderson are participating in the Els for Autism Grand Finale in Las Vegas.  The Finale is the culmination of a season long, charity-driven, golf series that in its first year has become the largest amateur, fundraising, national tournament in U.S history.

The Golf Challenge, spearheaded by World of Golf Hall of Famer Ernie Els, consisted of 30 Super Regional events around the country at TPC and handpicked public and private courses, from May through September, with all teams competing for a place at the Grand Finale in Las Vegas.  In September, team Bistis was the top fundraiser, qualifying them for the Grand Finale.

Core Services Participates at 3rd Annual Gray Cup Golf Tournament in New Jersey, held at Ballyowen Golf Club in Hamburg, NJ.
As a life-long resident of New Jersey, Jim Bistis, President and CEO of Core Services Corporation, feels passionately about helping to preserve the beauty of his home state.  And so for the past two years, Jim and his team were happy to raise funds for The Land Conservancy of New Jersey (“The Conservancy”) by playing in the 2nd and 3rd Annual Gray Cup Invitational Golf Classics.

“I love New Jersey, having grown up here and now head-quartering my company here,” explains Bistis.  “I am a great admirer of The Conservancy which preserves land and water resources, conserves open space, and inspires and empowers individuals and communities to protect our natural land and environment.”  Bistis continues, “As a New Jersey resident and business leader, I seek opportunities to help organizations that are making positive contributions to this great state. The Conservancy is just such an organization. Having preserved over 17,100 acres and assisted towns in securing more than $200 million in county, state, and federal grants for their land conservation projects, The Conservancy has helped ensure that New Jersey is able to host amazing outdoor events like the Gray Cup, and multiple national PGA events that showcase some of the most stunning settings in the country.”

The Annual Gray Cup Invitational Golf Classic is named to honor C. Graydon Rogers for his many years of outstanding service to The Conservancy. Gray served for ten years on The Conservancy’s Board of Trustees, including three years as Chairman. Under his stewardship and tireless leadership, The Conservancy grew from a regional land trust to a state leader in open space preservation. Bistis concludes, “My team comes out to have a great day at Ballyowen Golf Club at Crystal Springs Resort for a great cause. Both The Conservancy and my golf team come away as winners. We look forward to future events and continuing our support of The Conservancy.”

Katy Ski Jam- October 14 & 15 2011:   The Lakes of Katy WaterSki Club hosted the first annual Katy Ski Jam event on June 26, 2010.  It was an affordable, action-packed, water show in a fun, family atmosphere. The shoreline was packed with vendors, demonstrations, food and drink concession stands, professional athletes, local families, and business organizations.  That evening everyone was able to witness world-class water performances, including Freestyle Barefooters, Wakeboard tricksters, Hydrofoil and Free-Style Jumpers.  Community businesses, including Core Services, made donations and area employees volunteered their time and expertise to help organize this huge outdoor event.

As a Platinum Sponsor of Katy Ski Jam in 2010 and 2011, Jennifer Lasida, Director of Marketing and Events at Core Services, has provided her planning experience to this event and, perhaps more importantly, has been instrumental in arranging for the Houston Chapter of the American Cancer Society to receive a portion of this year’s proceeds.  Core Services, which is commited to actively participating in community events, is proud of Jennifer’s involvement — and Core Services will continue to support its employee’s efforts in local events and philanthropic endeavors.

The Starlight Gala:  The Starlight Gala was established in 1996 with the twin goals of raising money for the American Cancer Society and introducing young professionals to philanthropy.  Comprised of Houston’s brightest young leaders, these  philanthropists give back to the community in a big way. In the past 14 years the Starlight Gala has raised over $1.4 million for cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient services.

This past May marked the American Cancer Society’s 15th Annual Starlight Gala.   As the American Cancer Society is the official sponsor of Birthdays– and in honor of celebrating the Gala’s 15th birthday – this year’s theme, “La Dolce Vita,” reflected on creating a world with more birthdays, one sweet life at a time.   This well-attended black-tie event was held in the elegant Crystal Ballroom at The Rice on Saturday, May 8, 2010.

In addition to being a Table Sponsor and Donor the last four years, Core Services’ Director of Marketing and Events, Jennifer Lasida, has also volunteered her time and skills.  As an event planner, Jennifer has worked as a site committee chair on the event’s operation planning and execution, and she managed the food/beverage and staffing during the event.   For more information on the Houston Starlight Gala go to: www.starlightgala.org
